Honest insights for a healthier you

Welcome to The Cooroy Dietitian's blog. I am Jacque.  Here, I share honest, evidence-based insights into nutrition and health, cutting through the noise to give you practical advice. My goal is to empower you with the knowledge to make informed choices for a healthier life.

Diverticular Disease Nutrition: Clarity Without Confusion

If you’ve been told to “avoid fibre” then later told to “eat more fibre,” you’re not alone. Diverticulosis advice is often misunderstood and oversimplified.

Here’s what actually matters.

During an acute flare, a short-term lower fibre approach may help reduce irritation and allow the bowel to settle. This is not forever; it’s a temporary strategy. Once symptoms improve, gradually reintroducing fibre is essential for long-term gut health and reducing future risk. Fibre supports stool consistency, bowel function and microbial diversity.

Hydration is equally important. Fibre and fluid work together; increasing one without the other can worsen symptoms.

Most importantly, tolerance is individual. Seeds and nuts are no longer routinely restricted, and there is no single “diverticulitis diet” that suits everyone. The goal is to stabilise symptoms, rebuild dietary variety, and create a sustainable eating pattern that supports gut health long term.

No fear-based food rules.
Just structured, stage-appropriate guidance.

Fueling your body right

From optimising hydration for peak performance to understanding the crucial roles of carbohydrates and protein in everyday health, I delve into what truly fuels the body.

Nutrition isn’t just about eating “well” it’s about eating strategically.

Hydration supports concentration, endurance, digestion and recovery.
Carbohydrates provide the brain and muscles with reliable energy.
Protein protects lean muscle mass, supports immune function and assists repair.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Micronutrients, fibre, gut health, iron levels, bone strength, and blood sugar regulation all of these systems rely on consistent, balanced nourishment.

Whether you're an athlete refining performance, managing a medical condition, navigating fatigue, or simply wanting steady energy across the day, nutrition is your foundation.

When the basics are strong, everything else becomes easier, from training and recovery to mood, focus and long-term health.

Because food isn’t just fuel.
It’s information for your body.

Nutrition for life's big challenges

When your health feels uncertain, your nutrition doesn’t have to be.

Diet plays a vital role in managing conditions such as osteoporosis and in supporting those undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment. The right nutrition can help maintain strength, protect bone density, preserve muscle mass, and support recovery when your body is working harder than usual.

I provide honest, compassionate, evidence-based guidance tailored to you. Together, we focus on practical strategies for adequate protein, calcium, vitamin D, iron, and overall nourishment while adapting to changing appetites, treatment side effects, fatigue, or shifting energy needs.

We can also discuss GLP-1 agonists, calorie awareness, and structured meal planning in a way that supports long-term health without unnecessary restriction or overwhelm.

Because nutrition during challenging times isn’t about chasing perfection.
It’s about building strength, stability, and confidence.

If you're ready to feel more supported in your health journey, I am here to help.
